Throughout the first covid lock down of 2020 I'd been sharing a lot of Kirtan over zoom, just me singing with the harmonium, I almost forget what it was like to be playing with other people. As the restrictions were lifting my friend Rachel arranged for me to spend a few hours recording and this is what came out. It's a few melodies I've been playing around with over the years, some have been sung together in large groups, others just by myself. A couple of them were kind of improvised on the day. All except Lokah Samasta which I'm unsure of the origin.

I've been sitting on this for a while wondering whether I would make it part of a larger project or not. Now that I've been sharing Kirtan with others again I wanted to record with friends, which I still plan to do but figure it will be something new. Ultimately I decided to just put this out there. A snapshot in time. A very, very strange time.

The title came from the physical location of the recording which was a barn in a field on Middle Road in Lytchett Matravers. It made me think of the middle way of the Buddha which feels very relatable at this point in my life. In conversations with friends many of us seem to have come to Yoga through some kind of extreme path, taking us away from who we are. I'm now trying to be true to myself, and I feel practices like Kirtan help me to do that. Having a personal connection to God/Life/Love and not following someone else's idea of what that means.
